As we exit the holiday season and get back to reality, a lot of you are also celebrating being newly engaged. Its a time that fizzes with excitement, love and possibility, so enjoy it new brides to be! But after the initial buzz, the business of planning a wedding begins; and for some this can feel a bit daunting.
I’ve chatted to many brides as we work on their bespoke accessories, as well as planning my own wedding back in 2014, so for my first blog post I'm sharing my tips and observations…
I found that no sooner had the engagement picture posted on Instagram everyone and their dog was suddenly a wedding expert with some crucial information! I met people in the line at the supermarket who knew exactly where we should book for the venue; and of course it’s well meaning advice but it can be overwhelming. There could also be pressure from family or friends about your location, guest list, wearing an heirloom dress, or even who is in your bridal party. Everyone just loves a wedding - and an opinion!
My advice to my brides when they come for a fitting at our studio, is to tune into how they feel in the piece, because feeling their best is what will make them shine with confidence on the day. And I’d say the same for the planning process, how you feel is the most important thing. It can be tough to communicate that, especially to relatives, but doing so with kindness early on will save a lot of stress down the line.
Taking some time as a couple to tune out all the noise will let you think about what will make you both happy and relaxed when you make your vows to each other. By staying true to yourselves you’ll enjoy your planning process more, and get the day you both want in your heart of hearts.
And once everyone is dancing the night away after a beautiful day, no-one will remember the suggestion they made, they’ll be too busy reveling in the love and laughter!
Below are some images of my beautiful clients; a free-spirited celebration in Mallorca, a relaxed and cool winter wedding in Leigh-on-Sea, and an elegant, classic day at Sennowe Park. Each wedding is so different from the last, and I think they all speak of the unique personalities of the couples.
I hope they can inspire you on your planning journey,
